The Fields Millennium Green

Millennium Green, a Brief History

The fields, originally part of Lilycroft Farm, was designated a Village Green in 1994, but it was only after pressure from a local Action Group that a bid was put into the Countryside Agency for Millennium Commission funding to create the Millennium Green. Funding was also provided by the New Deal for Communities.

The project was managed by Groundwork Birmingham and Solihull, who arranged for the area to be landscaped, trees planted, seating provided etc.The Millennium Green has been managed by The Fields Millennium Green Trust, a group of volunteers, since the land was formally handed over to them in February 2001.

Through Heritage Lottery Funding we have been able to set up an Urban Rangers Conservation group for Millennium Green who have not only been learning the traditional skills needed to manage the site; but also learning about and sharing its history.
